Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of George Foreman GR82B George Jr. RotisserieCustomer Review: A Surprisingly Useful Kitchen Appliance Summary: 4 Stars
After so many half cooked or over cooked chickens in my oven, I finally took the plunge and shopped for a rotisserie. I looked at the Popiel Showtime grill but decided against it because of the reviews that I read here on Amazon.com. They were so inconsistent that I was afraid the quality control was poor. So I opted for Mr. Foreman's rotisserie after reading the reviews. They are all right on. It's easy to clean except for the back plate (that's what lost the one star) - however, I use SOS pads and it comes clean (although scratched - it's up to you - stained or scratched). The first thing I cooked was a chicken. As many reviews have stated, it does come out perfect like a deli rotisserie chicken. The instructions do not give a lot of help with cooking times, so check the meat periodically with a thermometer so you don't over-cook it. The next thing I cooked was a rolled roast (a test for an upcoming dinner party). I cooked it 20 minutes to the pound, but with the additional sitting, it came out medium (I like medium rare). When I cooked another rolled roast for my dinner party, I calculated 15 minutes to the pound and checked the temperature. At that point it was a bit underdone, so I added 15 minutes. The point is, if you like medium rare beef, cook it until it is 130-135 and then turn it off and let it sit. The final roast will be about 140 to 145 (I hope). Experiment with your machine, learn it's quirks, and I'm sure you'll be very satisfied. I've used this machine 3 times in the two weeks since I bought it. If you cook roasts or whole chicken often, this is a good buy.
